This generation of first-person action games has been pretty incredible, and players have been treated to several exceptional titles across a range of different settings and styles. PS5 players have been eating well, and it doesn’t matter if they are jumping back into an existing franchise or experiencing an entirely new one; it seems as though the action space is only getting better and better.
In just a few years, there have been some epic sequels and iconic follow-ups, as well as a few fresh spaces that have managed to shake things up at the top of many players’ lists. But regardless of where the game is set, who it is about, or how the player engages with the world, they are in for a real ride from the moment the title screen appears, all the way to the very end.
Deathloop
A Tactical Twist To The Shooter Genre

Deathloop delivers a masterful twist on first-person shooting through its innovative time-loop mechanics that let players control how every single gunfight plays out. Trapped on the island of Blackreef, players are forced to eliminate eight targets before the day resets, using whatever tools they can find to sneak, run, or blast their way through in cinematic fashion.
The invasions by other players as rival assassins add an unpredictable element to specific missions, and the level designs allow for plenty of creative and strategic approaches, whether the target is an AI or a real person. It’s a unique experience in an otherwise fairly bloated genre, and one that PS5 players should certainly give a try if they are looking for something genuinely different.
Borderlands 4
Chaotic Loot-Fuelled Mayhem

Borderlands 4 perfects the looter-shooter formula by bringing in even more guns and even more enemies to shoot, all within a much larger seamless open world. Players can run around clearing side missions, or skip past all the Claptrap shenanigans and power through the main quest, with both options offering just as much chaos and fun as the other.
The big draw comes from the late game, where players can work together to collect much bigger bounties and enter challenging raids that house plenty of impressive enemies with some equally impressive guns waiting for them on the other side. Fans of the franchise will feel right at home, and it is a pretty good place to start for newcomers as well.
Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora
Movie Magic Made Real

Frontiers of Pandora brings the gorgeous universe of Avatarinto the video game world in the best rendition of the franchise to date. Players can do everything from flying Ikrans to taking down military bases, all in a seamless open world where every location flows into the next.
Beneath all the exploring lies a satisfying gameplay loop that combines tense FPS action with a more calculated survival feel, forcing players to scavenge for materials and hunt in order to have a better chance against the later camps. From the visuals alone, players will be instantly captivated, but the game has so much more to offer below the surface that will keep them coming back for hours on end.
Indiana Jones And The Great Circle

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is about as close as it gets to experiencing the adventures of one of cinema’s most iconic heroes first-hand. Everything about the game just screams fun, from the characters to the action, to the gameplay itself, and players have a lot of control over how they engage with each location and the enemies within them.
Part stealth, part action game, players will often find themselves juggling several different objectives at once, and will have to decide whether they want to be a courageous hero or a sneaky thief. Even when the gameplay becomes more linear, the sequences are incredibly impressive to look at, so despite being lighter on the mechanical side of things, it is still a load of fun from start to finish.
Metro Exodus
Post-Apocalyptic Horrors

Metro Exodus combines atmospheric storytelling with survival-oriented combat to deliver an experience that is equal parts horror and action. Set in post-apocalyptic Russia, players navigate several harsh environments filled with mutated creatures and hostile humans, managing their resources and using whatever strategies they can to continue pushing forward.
The open-world segments expand the exploration beyond linear tunnels, while the dynamic weather and day-night cycles heighten the immersion, making every step in the wasteland feel so much closer to the player. It isn’t a non-stop thrill ride, but the action segments are plentiful, keeping players on their toes and adding to what is already an incredibly tension-filled playthrough.
