Battlefield 6 Dev Explains Why Seasons Don’t Launch With More Maps

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Battlefield 6 producer Alexia Christofi commented on the shooter’s post-launch content. More specifically, the Battlefield 6 producer addressed the cadence at which new maps are being delivered.

Battlefield 6 released in October 2025, marking a triumphant return for the series following a brief four-year hiatus. Unlike its predecessor, Battlefield 6 was met with a very strong critical reception upon its launch, earning a Top Critic Average of 83 on OpenCritic, with 90% of critics recommending the game. Four months on from launch Battlefield 6 has just entered its second season of post-launch content, with the first adding the free-to-play RedSec battle royale mode, new weapons and vehicles, and two all-new maps. After a brief delay, Battlefield 6 Season 2 is now following suit, having just added its own assortment of new weaponry, and having debuted a brand-new map with another map set to arrive on March 17.

Battlefield 6 Producer Says Maps Are Coming “As Quickly As We Can Build Them”

Compared to some of its competition, Battlefield 6‘s post-launch seasons may seem a little lacking when it comes to the amount of content on offer, at least on paper. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, for instance, launched a month after Battlefield 6 and is deep into its second season. Since its November 2025 launch, Black Ops 7 has delivered seven brand-new maps, four remastered maps, and two limited-time variant maps. An additional two new maps and three returning maps will be added by the end of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 2. Of course, Call of Duty‘s maps are designed for much smaller lobby sizes than Battlefield 6‘s and are thus much smaller in size. But purely from a technical standpoint, Black Ops 7 has received 11 maps since its release, while Battlefield 6 has received three. It’s also important to note that both Call of Duty and Battlefield have received new maps for their respective battle royale modes.

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Battlefield 6 producer Alexia Christofi shed some light on the number of new maps included in each post-launch season. Christofi said, “In terms of cadence, we would love to create way more maps,” but that resources and time constraints limit the amount of content the team can deliver each season, saying “we’re just trying to kind of bring things to players as quickly as we can build them.”

This comment has sparked some debate online regarding the number of developers that are still working on Battlefield 6 during its current seasonal rollout. Before release, Battlefield 6 was being worked on by four separate studios (five before Ridgeline Games’ closure in February 2024), all brought under the collective banner of Battlefield Studios, those being DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion Games. It’s unconfirmed how many of these studios, or how many developers overall, have continued to work on Battlefield 6.

Battlefield 6‘s next wave of new content will arrive on March 17, bringing the new Hagental Base map, the Nightfall limited-time event, two new weapons, and a new motorbike. The final Battlefield 6 Season 2 wave will then arrive on April 14, adding the Operation Augur limited-time mode, another new vehicle, and updates to Battlefield Portal.
