A recent Crimson Desert mod adds a character creator to the game, letting players customize Kliff from a variety of settings, including gender, facial presets, and hairstyles. It’s no secret that Crimson Desert has been one of the most fascinating video game launches to start the year. It carried a lot of excitement as it neared its release date on March 19, 2026, only to end up with a lukewarm reception by fans and critics alike. And yet, as the developers started to implement key fixes to Crimson Desert, and as the players had time to calibrate their expectations, discourse around the game began to shift.
Steam reviews for Crimson Desert are turning very positive, as the game currently enjoys an 86% rating on Valve’s platform. While Crimson Desert may not have the most complex narrative or the most captivating protagonist, it is a title praised for its gameplay loop and the breadth of its open world content. What Crimson Desert does, it does well, and it seems to be doing remarkably well in keeping its audience occupied three weeks into its launch – with 146,580 consecutive players logging into the game through Steam on April 8, 2026, according to SteamDB.
Crimson Desert Mod Adds Character Creator for Male and Female Kliff
The mod was made by Khione95 and uploaded to Crimson Desert‘s Nexus Mods page. It allows players to use the barbershop feature in Crimson Desert to completely change the appearance of Kliff. Not only does it provide hair customization and facial presets, but the character creator also lets fans explore Pywell as a female Kliff, complete with a supplementary mod that changes Kliff’s voice to match the alternative gender.
The mod is in its early stages of development, but it already features 98 face presets and 159 hairstyles. Khione95 plans to add support for Orc and Goblin customization options, as well as implement an animation set for female Kliff. In the future, players can also expect an expanded facial customization system by separating eye color and eyebrows from the facial presets.
Crimson Desert players who wish to test the mod out should know of its dependencies: it requires both the JSON Mod Manager and Kliff Female Voice, the latter giving the female option a far more immersive experience. Given how the character creator in Black Desert was made to be so thorough and extensive in its customization, and given how much of a blank slate Kliff can feel in Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss’ decision to go with a fixed protagonist still confounds some of its players.
