2025 has felt like the year of automotive recalls. Ford has been a major culprit. The Blue Oval set a new record for most recalls during a calendar year, about halfway through the year. But other manufacturers have put in some notable efforts.
There have been several odd recalls over the years. But Genesis just issued one of the weirdest recalls we have seen in quite a while. Hyundai’s luxury arm just recalled a vehicle because the paint caused a serious accident risk. Yes, the paint job apparently presents a safety risk.
Genesis Recalled The G90 For Unintended Braking
The recall is for its flagship G90 sedan. The issue is unintended braking while using Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist (HDA) feature. The system falsely detects a vehicle entering the lane in front and automatically applies the brakes. Genesis found this happening in the G90 with HDA engaged at speeds below 12 mph and when Lane Change Assist was activated. How is this paint-related? We’re glad you asked.
How is this paint-related? We’re glad you asked. The false detections only happened on vehicles with Genesis’s super-shiny Savile Silver paint job. Apparently, the aluminum content in the silver lower bumper paint activates the front corner radar, causing false signals from an object in front.
The recall affects 483 Genesis G90 sedans sold with the Savile Silver paint from the 2023 to 2026 model years. Genesis will install a new sealed front bumper beam free of charge. The brand is also adding sealed-beam radar to new G90 production models. Genesis suspended Savile Silver G90 production on November 2, 2025, and will reintroduce the color once Genesis adds the sealed beams to production.
This Recall is Not The Genesis G90’s Only Recall In 2025
Genesis recalled 2,345 G90 sedans built from 2023 to 2025 in July 2025 for a start-up glitch with the instrument cluster. The glitch made the display show no information after starting the vehicle. That created obvious trouble for drivers who wanted to know how fast they were going and how much fuel or charge they had remaining. Genesis fixed the issue with a software update, and it no longer affects vehicles built after May 2025.
Genesis Has Produced Some Interesting And Exciting Concepts This Year
Aside from safety recalls for the G90 flagship, Genesis has also spent 2025 showing off intriguing glimpses of its future. Genesis is launching a new Magma performance division. And it has revealed some exciting new vehicles Genesis may have in the pipeline.
Genesis is building a new Magma GT sports car that will take on the Porsche 911 with several different variants. Genesis will also produce hotter Magma variants of existing models. A GV60 Magma, borrowing heavily from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, will be the first.
