Bundeswehr selects SitaWare Battlefield Health to digitize medical command and control
Germany – The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) have selected SitaWare Battlefield Health, a digital medical system developed by Systematic, to equip its medical services under an enterprise licence. The platform will deliver casualty tracking, patient documentation, and real-time medical situational awareness, expanding the SitaWare Suite already in operational use within the Bundeswehr.
Enterprise deployment expands existing SitaWare footprint
By securing an enterprise licence, the Bundeswehr will receive a medical command-and-control (C2) capability integrated within the SitaWare ecosystem. The decision broadens the armed forces’ use of the SitaWare Suite beyond operations and into military healthcare, aligning clinical workflows with operational C4ISR frameworks.
Systematic said the solution enables medical personnel to record, access, and monitor patient care from the point of injury through to hospital admission. The platform supports real-time data capture for each patient and continuous tracking as individuals move through various stages of care, enhancing medical readiness and coordination.
Key capabilities: real-time visibility from battlefield to hospital
- Casualty tracking and patient documentation from incident site through to hospital admission
- Continuous, real-time data capture for each patient across the care pathway
- Medical command-and-control tools to build a comprehensive operational medical overview
- Interoperability across national and coalition networks via the wider SitaWare Suite
The software is designed to function in a multinational context, supporting processes such as patient flow management, repatriation tracking, and incident-site care documentation. According to Systematic, SitaWare is used in more than 50 countries worldwide, allowing different levels of military command and operational domains to share plans and critical information across both national and coalition networks.
C4ISR integration for military healthcare
SitaWare Battlefield Health combines healthcare IT features with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems for military staff. The integration enables frontline medical units and higher headquarters to synchronize clinical data with operational decision-making, improving response times and resource allocation during missions.
Industry perspective
Systematic’s German subsidiary managing director Sven Trusch said: “We are proud that the Bundeswehr has again selected our proven SitaWare Suite, now expanding the capabilities to its medical services.
“Systematic draws on extensive expertise across its Defence and Healthcare divisions, having developed cutting-edge solutions over decades, that are deployed worldwide today. Consolidating this know-how represents the next logical step in enhancing the operational capabilities of our armed forces.”
Context: Germany’s broader medical modernization
The selection of SitaWare Battlefield Health aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize Germany’s military medical infrastructure. In October 2025, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) awarded an order to Rheinmetall to provide the Bundeswehr with highly mobile, protected medical facilities. Together with digital platforms like SitaWare Battlefield Health, these developments aim to strengthen medical support, mobility, and resilience across deployments.
Why this matters
- Operational readiness: Real-time medical C2 increases visibility of casualties and care capacity during missions.
- Interoperability: The solution supports coalition operations and multinational medical workflows.
- Continuity of care: Tracking patients from point of injury to hospital admission improves outcomes and documentation accuracy.
Conclusion
The Bundeswehr’s adoption of SitaWare Battlefield Health under an enterprise licence marks a significant step in digitizing military healthcare and integrating it with operational command systems. With SitaWare already in use across the armed forces and in more than 50 countries, the new medical C2 capability is positioned to enhance real-time patient tracking, documentation, and multinational interoperability. Implementation details were not disclosed, but the move fits within Germany’s broader push to upgrade medical support and readiness across the force.
