The Flint Assembly Plant is the longest-operating factory in the General Motors portfolio, following the closure of Buick City, having first opened nearly 80 years ago in 1947. With such a storied history, Flint Assembly has produced a lot of vehicles, and earlier this month, the plant hit a major milestone. The 16 millionth vehicle rolled off the assembly line at the Flint plant, a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab LTZ finished in Lakeshore Blue Metallic.
To celebrate the 16 millionth truck, employees watched as the Silverado reached the end of the line. The Silverado 2500 HD is a fitting vehicle for a place like Flint because this particular vehicle is powered by GM’s 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8, specifically the 3.5 millionth one to be produced. Not only is this truck special because of its build number and its engine, but it was also purchased by a special customer, who will use it the way Chevy intended.

The 16 millionth truck won’t be put in a museum. It was purchased by Andy Sanford, previous owner of a 2016 Silverado HD with a Duramax diesel engine. Sanford’s last truck was driven to almost one million miles on its original injectors, proving the durability of the Duramax engine, according to Chevy. He clearly trusts the Chevy brand and the Duramax toughness, so he had to have another Silverado HD. GM hosted Sanford at Flint Assembly to watch his new truck roll across the assembly line and go through Dynamic Vehicle Testing (DVT).
“Seeing my own Chevy put through its paces was surreal,” he said. “This was like getting a backstage pass to a special moment. I come from a GM family and while we have had other vehicles, they’ve been nothing like my truck. I love the reliability and durability.”
