Leonardo DRS to Deliver Battle Management System for Royal Thai Army, Partnering with Chaiseri
Bangkok, Thailand – US-based defense contractor Leonardo DRS will deliver a new Battle Management System (BMS) to the Royal Thai Army, with Thailand’s Chaiseri Defense Systems providing in-country services. The capability integrates tactical computing and next-generation software to deliver real-time situational awareness from vehicle level up to brigade, according to the company.
Contract Overview and Core Capabilities
The BMS delivery includes project management, engineering, and ongoing technical support, underscoring Leonardo DRS’s role in enabling networked command-and-control for Thai land forces. The company said the BMS is designed to integrate tactical computing solutions with advanced software, enabling rapid data sharing and battlefield visualization across echelons.
Leonardo DRS land electronics business unit senior vice president and general manager Dennis Crumley said: “This contract represents an important step in expanding local industrial participation and delivering long-term, advanced capability to the Royal Thai Army.
“We are proud to advance our partnership with Chaiseri with this important contract and look forward to future cooperation to support the national security needs of Thailand.”
Local Industry Participation and Support
Thailand’s Chaiseri Defense Systems will lead local services for the new BMS capability, ensuring the system’s deployment and sustainment across the Royal Thai Army. The scope includes:
- System installation and commissioning
- Training of operators
- Through‑life sustainment
Chaiseri Defense Systems managing director Kan Koolihiran said: “We are proud to strengthen our relationship with Leonardo DRS through this subcontract, supporting delivery of a world-class BMS capability for the Royal Thai Army.”
Expanding Collaboration and Previous Awards
The agreement builds on a collaboration initiated in November 2024 between Leonardo DRS and Chaiseri Defense Systems, focused on enhancing local capacity and supplying mission systems for the Royal Thai Army.
In February 2024, Leonardo DRS received a separate contract to equip the Royal Thailand Army’s new Stryker armoured vehicles with command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems. Chaiseri partnered on that program to deliver technology installation, training, and in-country support.
Technology Focus and Future Development
Leonardo DRS continues to prioritize network computing and integration for C4/C5 technologies used by US and allied militaries. The company is also developing new tactical computing systems and AI processing solutions aligned with modern open standards to support evolving operational requirements.
The BMS capability for the Royal Thai Army aligns with broader modernization efforts to enhance command-and-control, strengthen interoperability, and support data-driven decision-making across land forces.
What This Means for Thailand’s Defense Modernization
- Operational impact: The BMS is expected to improve shared situational awareness and responsiveness across units from vehicle to brigade level.
- Industrial benefits: The partnership advances local participation through Chaiseri’s role in installation, training, and lifecycle sustainment.
- Strategic continuity: The contract builds on ongoing C4I and mission systems programs, including the February 2024 Stryker award.
Conclusion
Leonardo DRS and Chaiseri Defense Systems are moving forward with delivery, integration, and training for the Royal Thai Army’s new Battle Management System. With local sustainment embedded and prior C4I work on the Stryker fleet, the program marks a continued push to expand Thailand’s land forces’ digital command-and-control capabilities and deepen industry cooperation.
