Lockheed Martin to Integrate Google’s Gemini Generative AI Into Secure, On-Premises AI Factory

– Lockheed Martin has announced a partnership with Google Public Sector to embed Google’s generative AI technologies, including the Gemini models, into the defense contractor’s AI Factory. The tools will be deployed within secure, on-premises, air-gapped environments, with initial integration in an unclassified environment and access provided across the company.

Partnership Overview

Under the collaboration, Google’s AI capabilities will be introduced to Lockheed Martin teams through a secure setup designed to uphold operational security and meet requirements for national security applications. The agreement aims to scale data-driven solutions across the enterprise while protecting sensitive workloads.

Secure, On-Premises Deployment

Lockheed Martin confirmed the deployment will occur on-premises and within air-gapped systems, ensuring the AI tools remain accessible to personnel while preserving the integrity of restricted environments. According to the company, the structure of the collaboration allows teams to use advanced AI while maintaining the security posture expected in defense and related domains.

Initial Rollout and Access via Google Distributed Cloud

In the initial phase, Google’s generative AI technologies will be integrated into Lockheed Martin’s unclassified on-premises environment. Staff will access the Gemini platform via Google Distributed Cloud, enabling use of generative AI for workload management and broader mission applications.

Planned Use Cases Across Missions

Lockheed Martin said the collaboration is designed to support a range of mission areas and enterprise functions, including:

  • Aerospace, space exploration, and cybersecurity applications
  • Processing multi-modal data to accelerate detection of patterns and anomalies
  • Supporting research and development to advance new technologies
  • Optimizing logistics through improved resource allocation and route planning

Company Statement

Greg Forrest, vice president of AI foundations and commercialisation at Lockheed Martin, said: “Collaborating with Google Public Sector to bring Gemini onpremises underscores our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, secure AI capabilities that directly support our mission-critical programs. This initiative equips our engineers with powerful tools-safely and at scale-to accelerate innovation in support of our business and critical missions.”

Background and Industry Context

The move builds on Lockheed Martin’s broader AI strategy. In December 2024, the company unveiled Astris AI, a new enterprise focused on accelerating AI adoption across the U.S. defense sector and commercial markets. The integration of Gemini via Google Distributed Cloud signals a push to bring advanced generative AI into operationally secure, on-premises environments, a priority for defense-grade systems.

Why It Matters

By keeping generative AI capabilities air-gapped and on-premises, Lockheed Martin targets speed and security for mission-critical programs while making the tools available to engineers across business lines. The collaboration is positioned to drive faster insight generation from complex datasets and streamlined operations across R&D and logistics-core areas for aerospace, defense, and cybersecurity.

Conclusion

Lockheed Martin’s integration of Google’s Gemini models into its AI Factory marks a step toward secure, enterprise-scale generative AI in defense-oriented environments. With the initial rollout in unclassified systems and broader applications planned across aerospace, space, and cybersecurity, the partnership aims to accelerate innovation while adhering to national security requirements. Further phases of deployment were not detailed.
