Conceived under Turkey’s National Tank Production Project (MITÜP), the Altay MBT combines domestic innovation with South Korean technology from the K2 Black Panther. Designed by BMC (with initial development by Otokar and Hyundai Rotem), it entered mass production in May 2024, with deliveries slated to begin in August 2025.

Advanced fire control delivers hunter-killer capability, thermal sights, laser rangefinding, and automatic target tracking.

  • Outfitted with Roketsan-developed composite and reactive armor, plus Aselsan’s AKKOR Active Protection System (APS). The vehicle includes CBRN protection, an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), smoke launchers, explosion suppression, and enhanced situational awareness systems.

  • Weighs approximately 65 tonnes, with a crew of 4—commander, gunner, loader, and driver. Dimensions: ~7.3 m length, 3.9 m width, and 2.6 m height.

• Turkey is the sole current operator. The Ankara BMC production plant has started mass manufacturing, aiming to deliver up to 250 Altay MBTs initially, with plans to scale up to 1,000 over multiple batches.
