In the battle for sports car sales supremacy, there are winners, and there are losers. Sticking to the classic definition of a sports car as a machine designed primarily for thrills with no compromises to accommodate a mass-market commuter model, we’re highlighting the most popular sports cars of 2025 below, based on sales volumes in the USA. From the Corvette Stingray to the Mercedes-AMG SL to a once-dominating supercar that managed just 39 sales this year, read on for a look at where your favorite machinery ranks among the following models.

Note

All figures included have been sourced directly from the automakers, and the entries are ranked in order of sales, in descending order. Automakers who do not report individual model sales have not been included. Specs included relate to the base trims of each model.

2025 Chevrolet Corvette (All Variations)

24,533 units (not including pre-production units)

Engine 6.2-liter V8 gas NA
Power 490 hp
Torque 465 lb-ft
Drive RWD
Transmission 8-speed dual-clutch automatic
0-60 mph (approx) 3.0 seconds

According to the National Corvette Museum, the Corvette Stingray represents more than half of Corvette sales, with the Z06 making up 34.3 percent, followed by the Corvette E-Ray at 12.2 percent. Corvette shoppers in 2025 bought slightly more coupes (57 percent) than convertibles (43 percent). The holy-grail ZR1 and incoming ZR1X made up the smallest portion of sales this past year.

2025 Porsche 911 (All Variations)

Engine 3.0-liter flat-six cylinder twin turbo gas
Power 388 hp
Torque 331 lb-ft
Drive RWD
Transmission 8-speed PDK
0-60 mph (approx) 4.0 seconds

Porsche 911 sales in 2025 totaled 13,574 units. That’s a significant step down in volume compared to the Corvette, though these figures include the 911’s strongest December sales yet. Like the Corvette, the Porsche 911 is available in a range of sub-models, with sales reported for the entire model range. A new 911 Turbo S is set to go on sale in 2026.

2025 Toyota GR86

9,940 units

Engine 2.4-liter Flat-4 gas NA
Power 228 hp
Torque 184 lb-ft
Drive RWD
Transmission 6-speed manual
0-60 mph (approx) 6.3 seconds

The Toyota GR86 was one of the most affordable sports cars on the market in 2025, with a last-of-its-kind naturally-aspirated flat-four engine under the hood, a six-speed manual in the middle, and rear-wheel drive with a standard Torsen Limited Slip Differential (LSD). The GR86’s twin, the Subaru BRZ, ditches its base trim this year, driving its price up by thousands. This makes the Toyota GR86, still available in base trim, the most affordable machine built on this performance platform.

2025 Mazda MX-5

8,727 units

2025 Mazda MX-5 Selected Specifications
Engine 2.0-liter I4 gas NA
Power 181 hp
Torque 151 lb-ft
Drive RWD
Transmission 6-speed manual
0-60 mph (approx) 5.8 seconds

The Mazda MX-5 comes next on our list, with 8,727 units sold in 2025. This lightweight, thrifty drop-top can be had with soft top or hard-top roof options, and manual or automatic transmissions. Though shoppers after more power and space will gravitate towards the BRZ and GR86, the MX-5 remains a compelling choice for an affordable convertible experience that’s cheap to run and holds its value well.

2025 Porsche 718

6,399 units

Engine 2.0-liter Turbo Flat-4
Power 300 hp
Torque 280 lb-ft
Drive RWD
Transmission 6-speed manual
0-60 mph (approx) 4.8 seconds

Next up, at 6,399 units, is the Porsche 718 model range. Consisting of the Boxster and Cayman, this range of entry-level Porsche sports models caters to shoppers with a variety of engine and transmission choices, as well as no shortage of special-edition models, upgrades, and add-ons available. Alongside the Corvette, above, this is one of just two mid-engine options on your page.
